Underground Cable Fault Detection Services

Have you suddenly lost power to your property and need to get it restored ASAP? We’ll help you find the fault – Fast!

When do you know you need cable fault detection services?

If you’ve suddenly lost power to your property and need it restored urgently, there’s a high chance an underground cable fault is to blame—and you’re in the right place.

With a proven success rate of over 70%, our technicians are trusted by electricians, builders, and property owners across Victoria to locate faults quickly and precisely—so repairs can begin without costly delays or unnecessary excavation.

Typically, a customer first calls an Electrician, who confirms there is a fault, and if it is an underground fault a specialist technician form Scantek Group may be called upon to pinpoint that fault.

At Scantek Group, we specialise in underground cable fault detection using advanced non-destructive methods. We can locate faults for the following cable types:

Common causes of cable faults

There are numerous ways a cable fault can occur, many of which are related to environmental conditions, installation errors, aging infrastructure, or accidental damage, such as:

  • Excavation or construction damage
  • Tree root intrusion
  • Ageing or deteriorating cables
  • Lightning strikes and electrical surges
  • Water ingress and insulation failure
  • Poor installation practices
  • Overloaded or overheated cables

If you have an emergency and need to find a fault ASAP. How soon can you come?

Loss of power due to a cable fault is not only an inconvenience but in some cases could be life-threatening. We recognise this and accordingly provide a 24 hour emergency service. To us your safety is paramount.

Will I need to have an Electrician on-site?

Yes. Electricians are the specialists we require to ensure the site is prepared correctly for us to pinpoint the fault and undertake the work to fix the fault.

What if you can’t find a cable fault?

When we go out to a job site to find a cable fault, we typically look for two things. The first is, we need to find the actual cable itself. We will then look for the fault along that cable. If we don’t manage to detect a fault on the cable, we will not charge you for the cable fault detection part of the service; we will only invoice you for our time to find and mark out where the cable is. This then allows the electrician to undertake further examination to locate the fault.

If upon further investigation the fault is not where we indicated we will provide a refund for the fault detection component of our service.
